What is international business volunteering?

International business volunteering allows a man or woman to go on a professional mission abroad on behalf of a French company. Now, let’s go into a bit more detail:

International Business Volunteering is managed by Business France (formerly UBIFRANCE, the French agency for international trade development) and supported by Pole Emploi. When you are looking for a job and want to benefit from the VIE, you are hired by a French company as an international volunteer. Many fields and positions are part of this system, so you can find a mission abroad in a scientific, technical, or commercial field.

International business volunteering is the best way to get your first job. Indeed, no less than 70% of people who have used this system are hired by the French company at the end of their mission abroad.

Why choose international business volunteering?

Nearly 3,000 young people leave each year as volunteers. The main host countries are the United Kingdom, China, and of course, the United States. If you are interested, the French company in question will need to sign an agreement (also signed by Business France) that will include all the elements related to your mission abroad.

The employer will also need to take out liability insurance for you. After that, you will need to undergo a medical examination and get all the necessary vaccinations to go to the country where your mission will take place.

The mission of a volunteer lasts between 6 and 24 months, but generally, volunteers go for a period of 17 months. Be aware that the volunteer is not a volunteer in the traditional sense. In other words, by undertaking a mission abroad as part of a V.I.E., you will receive a monthly allowance ranging from €650.71 to €3,325.64 depending on the country and the mission.

To be eligible for international business volunteering, you must be a national of a European Economic Area (EEA) country, be between 18 and 28 years old, and be a student or graduate looking for a job.

International business volunteering is a system implemented since March 14, 2000, which offers many advantages for you and the employer.

You have a very good chance of finding a permanent position in the French company, and it allows you to have an enriching experience in another country. For the employer, the benefits include, for example, an exemption from all social taxes, among others.

Therefore, if you meet the conditions listed above, don’t hesitate to embark on international business volunteering!
